Trapped!

Since Riley is crawling around on her belly now (and is really fast), we decided to get her a "pen" to put her in so she can't get into trouble when we need to run off to the bathroom or something. So far results are mixed. She usually cries at first but calms down eventually.
The dahlias are out of the ground and I'm dividing them when I can. I hope to be done tonight.

Bye Bye Dahlias

Well, we had our first killing frost last night and the dahlias are no more. The bummer about it is that time got away from me last night and I never got around to cutting what I had before it got dark outside. I could only salvage about a half dozen blooms from the huge group I had. The rest had all been fried by the frost. Oh well. I cut down my stalks this afternoon and covered the nub with tin foil until next weekend when I plan on digging the tubers and dividing.

The end numbers were these. I started with 45 different varieties I believe, and ended with with 31 different blooms. I had one other that would have bloomed withing the next few days if not for the frost. As it was, the picture of Ripples is not a good one. I took it today and the petals are a little funky from last night.

I'm looking forward to next year already! Here's a picture of the garden in August - the good ole days with free time and warm days - and the token picture of Riley.

Happy Birthday Nana!

It's Nana's 60th birthday today. This past Sunday we had a little party for her at our house. Her sisters came to surprise her and we had about 15 people over. Nana was surprised and thrilled that everyone came. Riley wore her party clothes and was a big help to Nana while she was opening presents.

VT Wedding

Today we went over to VT for my cousin MM's wedding. She and Justin were married in the Rocking- ham Meeting House, then we all went back to the farm for a big lunch under a tent. The weather was beautiful and we all had a good time. There were lots of babies in atten- dance and Riley had a lot of fun meeting her 2nd cousin once removed, Julia. Julia lives in Sweden and is visiting with her parents. Her dad, Tim, is MM's nephew. Julia is 12 days younger than Riley, so it was fun to see Riley interact with a baby who is the same age. They shared puffs and water. Riley showed Julia how good she can clap and Julia showed Riley how to crawl on her knees. It was so cute to see them interact with each other. Riley also got to see her 2nd cousin Luna again. Luna has gotten much bigger since we saw her in July and is now almost 12 lbs MM thinks.

Sizing

Last winter, before Riley was born, her Grandma and I went shopping and Grandma bought this little red sweater for Riley. I had been afraid that my newborn would be cold so we were looking for things to keep her warm in the cold winter (and last winter was cold). Well, that little red sweater was never actually so little and it didn't fit Riley last winter at all. It always looked huge so I never put it on her. I felt sad that Riley would probably never get to wear it.

Well, now Riley is in 12 month clothing at 9 months old. The other day I pulled that red sweater out of the closet and held it up thinking that it would end up being moved to the "outgrown" pile. Much to my surprise though it looked to be about the same size as all of her 12 month sweaters and sweatshirts. I tried it on her and that silly 3-6 month sized sweater finally fits!

9 Months Old

Riley is 9 months old today! I can't believe time is going so fast.
Uncle Peter came up today to visit with Riley and us. We just hung out and watched Riley try to move herself around the floor. She's not crawling really, but she wiggles herself around the floor. It turns out that the dog and errant beer bottles make her move the fastest.

Go Sox!

Riley wants to wish the Red Sox good luck tonight in their game. She wanted to stay up to watch but we told her that 10pm was past her bedtime, so we agreed on her wearing a shirt to show her support instead!

Stuck

Since Riley is moving herself more now, she sometimes finds herself stuck in situations she can't out of.
