Food

So we tried this week to give Riley a bit of rice cereal. She's been really interested in watching us eat so we thought we'd give it a try. We started on Monday night and tried again Tuesday and Wednesday with the cereal. She wasn't loving it. We figure maybe she doesn't like it because it tastes like paste. Then yesterday we tried Butternut Squash. She didn't like that either and started to get this really distressed look on her face about the whole thing so we decided to give it a rest for a few weeks and try again. In the meantime maybe we'll eat more at the table and sit her in her high chair with us.

For a short week, it was a long week. I have only 5 more days of class with my seniors before their final, but 12 more days with my underclassmen before theirs. Compared to the seniors, that seems like FOREVER! Once my seniors are gone though I'll be done teaching for the day at 10:45, so I guess that's something to look forward to. Plus my room just got remodeled and has air conditioning (the trade-off for my having a room with no windows) and it's going to be hot and humid at the end of next week.

I have quite a few dahlias that are making progress. The cat was using the new garden as a litter box for awhile so I hope that the non-performers in there are just taking their normal time and not dead due to cat turd. The black flies have finally calmed down a bit only to be replaced by mosquitoes. Riley got her first black fly bite yesterday. He was sucking the back fo her head out of my view and then flew away all engorged when I put her down. She didn't seem bothered by it, but the spot did get big and red the way they do with me.

Tomorrow Chris starts his first day of the season down at the landing as a lake host. He did this last summer and basically he sits down there and reads and checks the occasional boat that comes. We were upset that the town decided to put three porta potties at the landing which our pond doesn't warrant. As a result Chris would be sitting there with the stink and it will also keep people who like to fish or swim from the landing (like me) away. Plus, the people who live nearby can smell the antiseptic porta potty smell from their houses. Thankfully, Chris just told me that they hauled them away today.
